My third nabe – courtesy of my friend Dave, who accompanied me on my trip to Clinton Hill – will take me farther afield.
Georgetown is a subsection of the Bergen Beach area in southeastern Brooklyn. It was undeveloped until the 1960s, when a community of 400 two-story colonials called Georgetowne Greens was proposed, but was never executed. Other buildings filled in the area, which had its last undeveloped space built upon in the last ten years.
So, where’s Georgetown? I didn’t know either. (For reference, Fulton Ferry is the red dot, Clinton Hill the green.)
The neighborhood also abuts the inaccessible Paerdegat Basin Park.
I have no idea what to expect. My hunch is the background will be thin on this one, as a cursory search for “Georgetown” in the Brooklyn Collection catalog returns zero results. The one thing I do know: although the area is underserved by public transit, the B41 goes right there. (I just have to be on it for 45 minutes each way.)
I have been there many times. If you find anything interesting I will be pleasantly surprised.
